The Road Trip

ROAD TRIP

When we go on a road trip, we have a destination in mind. We get the car packed, we have our map with us…everything we’re going to need and head out.

Wow!! We are excited, we are finally on the road. We are seeing new places and it feels good to have stepped out of the ordinary.

But, we see an exit along the way that looks interesting, so why not…. Let’s go explore.

Cute little town, we check it out and spend a couple hours, buy a few souvenirs and now we’re ready to get back in the car and head down the road. That was fun!

Back on the road again and a few hours along we need to use the rest room, so we pull over at a travel stop. We use the restroom, grab a drink, stretch a bit and head off again.

Guess what…. Our lives are like a road trip…. We have a goal in mind for working out or changing our eating habits, but there are side trips and potty breaks all along the way.

And that’s ok!!!

When we take those side trips, do we get back to the car, throw our arms up in the air and say,” Well, that’s that… I got off the main road, and I might as well stop right here. I’m just going to stay parked at the rest stop. Nope, not going any farther.”

That would be pretty silly, yes?

No, we get back in the car with our souvenirs and keep going to our destination.

So it is with the goals we set.

When you take a side trip off the main road, remember it's part of life. Sure you might spend too much money or eat too much ice cream, but you will come back to the car with some souvenirs… maybe a lesson learned… but don’t beat yourself up over it.

Don’t just get back to the car and stay parked at the rest stop… that would be silly…. get in and keep driving towards your destination.

Remember… we have a goal set…. We know where we are headed… so get back in the car and enjoy the ride!
